Sounds of Daily life
Everything that we hear (also at this particular moment) provides us clues, cues, directions, or even warnings. Just like in video games, sounds help us understand what is happening in our spatial surroundings. Sounds can also evoke strong emotions and/or thoughts, as it fills the gap in which our other sensory organs couldn’t. The sound of the rain might remind you of your childhood days playing out in the rain, the sound of car horns might just act as a stressor, and maybe the voice of your loved ones has the power to bring you at ease almost instantaneously.
In our daily life, all the sounds that we hear from our surroundings as a whole is made up of so many different sounds. For example, the air blowing from the air conditioner, vehicles passing by on the streets, footsteps, and even the sound of your own breathing. Each and every single sound provides us with information of the space that we’re in. It is in those little details that we can realize, that, our life is made out of and filled with many, many little things layered on top of each other, often jumbled up and mixed with one another. And that allows us to create a sense of awareness and belonging of where we are, what we are doing, and who we are.
Looking at the bigger picture (or hearing sounds as a whole) quite satisfies our needs, but it is in the exploration of the details that we could bring ourselves to understand and appreciate the whole.
